Start Center has a mostly blue-and-white tabbed interface that
highlights five sections: Status & Recommendations, Optimize System,
Clean Up Computer, Fix Problems, and Customize Windows. Each tab has
several useful, clearly-defined functions that are easy for the
layperson to understand. The Status & Recommendations tab, which is
the app's default screen, displays the number of problems found under
the Fix Problems sub-heading and the Start 1-Click Maintenance button
under the Maintain System sub-head. At the bottom of the window is an
Optimization Status band that fills as you complete the steps needed to
whip your PC into shape. I found it a nice way to stay on top of the
maintenance process.
TuneUp Utilities introduces two new tools in this year's release: TuneUp
Disk Cleaner and TuneUp Browser Cleaner. The former removes left over
bits when programs don't cleanly uninstall; the latter removes browser
activity from the likes of Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, and 22
other browsers.
TuneUp Uilities 2013 is more than a basic PC clean up application. It
also contains many other functions including file backup and recovery,
file deletion, Windows customization, and more. Some of the features
duplicate native Windows function, but it's convenient to have them in
one central location.

Nitro Pro also lets you edit the text and images in a PDF, swapping
images, correcting typos or even editing entire paragraphs of text, plus
adding headers/fooders and watermark. You can even convert existing
PDFs back into editable documents, preserving the original layout –
Word, Excel and a number of text formats are currently supported – plus
extract images and text from the PDF easily.
Throw in powerful collaboration and annotation tools – 100 per cent
compatible with Adobe Acrobat, approval controls, digital signatures and
form filling, plus the ability to secure and protect PDFs by
restricting access and usage, and you’ve got just about everything you
need from a powerful PDF editor. And the good news is that all that
power isn’t hidden away – unlike rival products, Nitro utilises the
familiar ribbon-like interface found in Microsoft Office, ensuring all
its tools are both accessible and easy to use.
Version 8 of Nitro PDF adds even more useful functionality. It now
incorporates an OCR engine as standard for extracting editable text from
scanned documents. A new smart alignment engine makes it easier to
enter text neatly into non-interactive forms, while auto-save and
recovery reduces the painful consequences of possible data loss.
Performance has been improved too, with both conversion times and output
file sizes reduced.
If we’re being pernickety, then the OCR engine isn’t perfect, but it’s
the only minor blemish on what has become an irresistible package at a
bargain price. If you’re looking for a powerful PDF editor that won’t
break the bank, your search is over.
Build 8.5.3.14 brings these changes/improvements:
- XML Forms Architecture (XFA) enhancements across many areas of Nitro Pro 8
- WebDAV fail's to open documents from the Open dialogue
- Various other fixes and stability improvements
Verdict:
Not quite as major a step forward as version 7 was, Nitro Pro 8
nevertheless builds on previous versions to deliver a feature-rich,
effective PDF tool for those who need more than the basic functions.

1. Previous beta failed to decompress RAR archives contained both
encrypted and unencrypted files. Archives containing only encrypted or

2. By default, RAR 5.0 log files produced with -ilog switch use UTF-16
little endian encoding. Now it can be changed with -scg switch, such as
-scag for ANSI encoding.
